Tottenham Jet to Marbella for Training Camp Ahead of Coventry Clash

Tottenham Hotspur have taken their squad to Marbella for a warm-weather training camp as Roberto De Zerbi looks to arrest a difficult start to the season before his side host newly-promoted Coventry City, managed by Frank Lampard, on Monday night.

The decision to head to southern Spain comes after Spurs endured a winless run in the opening weeks of the campaign, despite a summer outlay of more than £300million on new recruits. That investment has yet to translate into results, though De Zerbi's side showed signs of progress in their most recent outing at Old Trafford against Manchester United, a game many felt they could have won had they been more clinical in the final third.

The trip abroad is designed to serve a dual purpose: lifting spirits within the squad and sharpening physical conditioning ahead of a demanding run of fixtures. With the team based in Spain and not involved in domestic action this weekend, Tottenham's usual pre-match media duties have been pushed back. Rather than speaking to reporters on Friday as is customary, De Zerbi and his players will not front up to the press until 9:30am on Sunday morning, just a day before the Coventry fixture.

That delay means supporters eager for fitness updates on a pair of key players will have to wait a little longer than usual. Dejan Kulusevski, the Swedish international who has been an important creative outlet for Spurs, travelled with the squad to Manchester but was ultimately left out of the matchday squad against United. His absence raised questions about a potential knock, though no official confirmation has been given, and clarity is expected to come once De Zerbi addresses the media on Sunday.

Also under scrutiny will be the condition of Pedro Porro, who has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury during Tottenham's match against Aston Villa last month. The Spanish full-back, a World Cup winner, was spotted in the stands at Old Trafford as he continues his rehabilitation. During the recent international break, Porro travelled to Spain to consult a specialist regarding his recovery timeline, but he was once again unavailable for selection against United.

For De Zerbi, the priority now is converting Tottenham's improved performance levels into tangible results. The Italian manager has overseen a squad overhaul this summer, with significant financial backing from the club's hierarchy, yet the early weeks of the season have been marked by frustration rather than celebration. The warm-weather retreat to Marbella is as much about mental reset as it is about physical sharpness, giving players a change of scenery away from the pressures of the Premier League before they return to face Coventry at home.

Monday's match represents an opportunity for Tottenham to open their account for the season against a Coventry side adjusting to life in the top flight under Lampard. De Zerbi will be hoping that the extended preparation period, combined with greater composure in front of goal, can finally deliver the breakthrough result his side have been chasing.

Further clarity on team news, including the availability of Kulusevski and Porro, is expected when the Tottenham manager speaks to the media on Sunday morning, just over 24 hours before kick-off against Coventry at home.
