Getafe Offer Lifeline to Out-of-Work Jadon Sancho
Jadon Sancho could soon have a new club after Spanish side Getafe reportedly extended a contract offer to the free-agent winger, who has been without a team since leaving Manchester United at the end of last season.
According to a report in The Times, Getafe have moved to offer Sancho a deal, with manager Jose Bordalas said to rate the 23-cap England international highly and believe he could provide a spark for a side struggling for form early this season. The Englishman is now reportedly weighing up the proposal.
Sancho's career in English football once carried huge promise. He arrived at Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 amid significant expectation, but he never managed to replicate the form that made him one of Europe's most exciting young wingers in Germany. His time at United was marked by public disputes with coaching staff, and he struggled to establish himself as a regular under several different managers.
In search of a fresh start, Sancho returned to Dortmund on a short-term loan in 2024, but that stint failed to reignite his United career. He then moved to Chelsea on loan last season, though the west London club ultimately decided to pay a £5million fee to avoid triggering an obligation to sign him permanently. A subsequent loan move to Aston Villa followed, where Sancho was part of the squad that lifted the Europa League, yet even that success was not enough to earn him a permanent offer from Villa once his United contract expired.
Since then, Sancho has been searching for a new club as a free agent. There had been talk of a possible third spell at Dortmund, but those reports came to nothing, leaving the winger without a side heading into the current campaign.
Getafe's interest comes at a time when Bordalas' squad lacks a recognised right-winger, having used right-backs and forwards in that position in recent matches. The La Liga club have endured a difficult start to the season, sitting 14th in the table with eight points from their first eight league fixtures. They are also competing in European football this term and are set to open their Conference League campaign against Romanian side Universitatea Craiova this week.
Should Sancho accept the offer, it would mark a significant shift in scenery for the former Dortmund and United star, moving from the Premier League's elite clubs to a mid-table La Liga side fighting to find consistency. For Getafe, bringing in a player of Sancho's pedigree and continental experience could represent a low-risk, high-reward gamble as they look to strengthen their attacking options both domestically and in Europe.
The winger's camp has not publicly commented on the offer, and no timeline has been given for when a decision might be reached. For now, Sancho remains a free agent, with Getafe appearing to be the most concrete option on the table as he looks to resurrect a career that once promised so much following his breakout years in Germany.
