Estevao Opens Up on Chelsea Bond in New Documentary

Chelsea winger Estevao has expressed his deep affection for the club and its supporters in a newly released documentary, describing Stamford Bridge as a destination he had long dreamed of reaching.

The 19-year-old Brazilian, who joined from Palmeiras last year in a £29million deal, enjoyed a standout debut season in west London, scoring important goals against both Liverpool and Barcelona. His fearless approach on the pitch quickly endeared him to the Chelsea faithful, even as he has found first-team opportunities harder to come by this season under new head coach Xabi Alonso.

Despite the reduced minutes, the bond between Estevao and the club's supporters appears to have only strengthened. That relationship is explored in depth in a 30-minute documentary titled "I Am Estevao," which premiered on Thursday, October 15, exclusively on Chelsea's subscription platform, Chelsea+. The film features interviews with important figures from both his time at Chelsea and his earlier development as a player, including his mother, Etienne Almeida, and his father, Ivo Goncalves.

In the documentary, Estevao reflected on his footballing journey, suggesting that his path to the professional game felt almost predestined. "I didn't realise. I was born with it," he said when asked about the moment he knew he wanted to become a footballer. He went on to reveal that the move to Chelsea was something of a long-held ambition shared with his family, one that required patience before it was finally realised. "We had this dream of [me] playing in a professional club in Europe. I waited almost a year to come here [to Chelsea, after the pre-agreed signing]. But it was a year-and-a-half where I worked hard," he explained.

The young attacker did not hide his enthusiasm for finally being at Chelsea, calling it "a place I always dreamed of being." He also used the opportunity to address the warmth he has received from supporters since his arrival, acknowledging how quickly that connection had formed despite his relatively short time at the club.

"Despite the short time, I see how much affection Chelsea fans have for me," Estevao said. "I think this affection makes me feel at home, makes me love this club more. Every time I meet the fans, they always talk to me. It makes me happy to know they like me, and so I try to repay that on the pitch, to make them happy, which is the most important thing."

Estevao's rise at Chelsea has coincided with his emergence as an established presence in the Brazilian national team setup, further cementing his status as one of the most promising young talents at the club. While his role under Alonso has been less prominent so far this campaign compared to last season, the documentary suggests that his relationship with supporters remains as strong as ever, built on the kind of fearless, attacking style that made him an instant fan favourite upon arrival.

The release of "I Am Estevao" offers fans a closer look at the personal story behind one of the club's most exciting young players, tracing his journey from Brazil to the Premier League and highlighting the family support that helped shape his career. With his long-term future at Chelsea still very much in focus, the documentary serves as a reminder of the mutual appreciation between Estevao and the Stamford Bridge faithful, even during a period when his on-field opportunities have been limited.
