Getafe Table Offer for Free Agent Jadon Sancho
Getafe have submitted a formal proposal to sign Jadon Sancho, the former Manchester United winger who has been without a club since his contract expired this past summer, according to reports.
The 26-year-old has spent recent months weighing up his next move after leaving Old Trafford, with suitors understood to span multiple leagues. While sources indicate that finalizing terms could prove difficult, the La Liga side are pushing to get a deal over the line.
Getafe currently sit 14th in the Spanish top flight and are also competing in the Europa Conference League this term, a campaign in which they hope a player of Sancho's pedigree could make a meaningful difference. Reports suggest the England international is inclined to continue his career outside of English football, though he has not ruled out any possibility as he continues to assess his options.
Sancho's career took a turn after a big-money switch to Manchester United in 2021, when the club paid Borussia Dortmund around £73m to bring him to the Premier League. That transfer never quite delivered the returns United envisioned, and the winger eventually found himself out on loan. He returned to Dortmund for a stint before later joining Chelsea on loan during the 2024-25 season, a deal that carried an obligation to buy. However, Chelsea ultimately paid a £5m fee to void that obligation and sent him back to United after he featured in 41 matches for the Blues.
Last season, Sancho moved to Aston Villa on loan, where he made 39 appearances under manager Unai Emery. That campaign proved fruitful for the club, as Villa secured Champions League qualification and lifted the Europa League trophy. Sancho played a part in the European success, appearing as a late substitute in the final victory over Freiburg — marking his third European final across as many seasons.
Getafe have already been busy strengthening their squad this transfer window. Just days before making their approach for Sancho, the club completed the free-agent signing of Dani Carvajal, the former Real Madrid captain who also found himself without a club after his contract at the Bernabeu lapsed in June. The 34-year-old right-back, a decorated figure in Spanish and European football with 27 trophies to his name including six Champions League titles, has put pen to paper on a deal running through June 2027.
As talks over his own future continue, Sancho has kept himself visible on social media, regularly sharing training footage with his followers on Instagram. One such post drew attention after it showed him visiting Flixton, a non-league club in the North West Counties League. The club was quick to issue a clarification that the former England international was not training with them on trial, moving to dampen speculation that arose from the visit.
For now, Sancho remains a free agent as he continues to sift through his options, with Getafe's offer representing one of the more concrete proposals to emerge publicly since his United exit. Whether the Spanish club can navigate the reported complications to complete a deal remains to be seen.
